NASA’s Satellite Breakthrough Tracks Global Plant Growth

Scientists at NASA have developed new satellite-based tools that monitor how plants grow and thrive across diverse ecosystems. Using data from the PACE (Plankton, Aerosol, Cloud, ocean Ecosystem) satellite, researchers can now map plant productivity worldwide and detect early signs of stress like drought, heat or cold snaps.Β

This new capability is a game-changer for ecosystems, agriculture and climate science. By spotting declines in photosynthesis or vegetation vigor early, land managers and farmers have a better chance to act before major losses occur. From forests to croplands, this means healthier green cover and, ultimately, stronger support for biodiversity and food systems.
